For October, our Ashberry Healthcare homes embarked on a culinary journey across Asia as part of our popular Themed Dining Initiative -and what a fantastic adventure it was! Each home selected a different Asian destination to celebrate, bringing residents and team members together.
Our Themed Dining Initiative celebrates connection and culture, turning meals into shared storytelling experiences. Team members from every corner of the globe bring a piece of their heritage to the table, cooking traditional dishes and guiding residents through the flavours, customs, and histories of their home countries. Each event becomes a culinary passport, inviting residents to taste unfamiliar spices, learn the meanings behind beloved recipes, and discover the stories that make each culture unique.
Holmer Court: A Taste of Thailand and the Festival of Lights
Residents at Holmer Court celebrated Thailand and Diwali this is month. Da, from Thailand, brought Thai delicacies and demonstrated how to make fresh papaya salad, filling the room with sights and aromas. Residents and staff enjoyed new flavours, especially pumpkin custard, and listened to Da’s stories about Thailand, deepening cultural appreciation. Thanks to Da for creating a memorable experience. The celebration continued with a lively Diwali event, where residents learned about its traditions and sampled Indian snacks.The festivities brought joy, light, and laughter.

Allt Y Mynydd & Meadowview & Moorhouse: Exploring Chinese Culture
At Allt Y Mynydd, residents enjoyed a delightful Chinese-themed dining experience featuring chow Mein and breaded lemon chicken.Smiles all around as everyone tried using chopsticks, leading to plenty of laughter and fun! To finish the day, residents opened fortune cookies and read their fortunes aloud - a cheerful ending to a lovely day.
Meanwhile, Meadowview embraced the theme with a day full of colour and creativity. The morning began with a relaxing pamper session, during which residents had their blush, lipstick, and nails painted in bright shades of orange, red, and yellow. Lunch offered a tempting selection of Chinese-inspired dishes prepared by the home’s talented chef, and in the afternoon, residents got creative by making origami fans - a perfect way to enda day of celebration and smiles.
At Moorhouse, residents enjoyed a Chinese-themed dinner with delicious food, vibrant décor, and a happy atmosphere. They savoured dishes like noodles, spring rolls, and sweet and sour chicken amid lively chatter and laughter, creating a memorable evening. Thanks to our kitchen team for the tasty feast and residents for the joyful memories.

The Weir: Flavour,Colour, and Dance
At The Weir, residents enjoyed an unforgettable Indian-themed day filled with flavour, music, and joy. The menu showcased a rich variety of traditional dishes, including vegetable korma, chicken curry,naan bread, poppadoms, chutneys, bhajis, samosas, and Bombay potatoes - a true feast that everyone appreciated. To make the occasion even more special, the talented staff performed a traditional Indian dance, filling the room with laughter, applause, and vibrant energy. It was a truly memorable day.

Broomy Hill: A Journey Through Sri Lanka and India
Broomy Hill took residents on a flavourful journey through Sri Lanka and India, with an afternoon full of music, movement, and mouth-watering dishes. Aalila, Revvy, and Elsa delighted everyone with stunning traditional Indian dances, while Mohomed introduced residents to the vibrant tastes of Sri Lankan cuisine, which proved to be a huge hit!
The celebration was a beautiful reminder of how much we value learning about and embracing each other’s cultures, and how food and music can bring people together in such a meaningful way.

Engelberg: A Japanese-Inspired Experience
Residents at Engelberg explored the flavours of Japan with interactive sushi-making session led by Manager Dan, supported by Wellbeing Coordinator Karyn. For many, it was their first time making or tasting sushi,and the activity was both educational and enjoyable - even if opinions on the flavour were divided! The themed lunch continued with a delicious sweet and sour chicken dish, followed by a dessert inspired by bananas.

Blaenos House: An Asian Culinary Celebration
At Blaenos House, our Themed Dining experience took us on a flavourful journey through Asia this month! Residents and staff enjoyed crafting colourful lanterns and exploring the continent through an engaging armchair travel quiz, fully immersing themselves in the sights and tastes of Asia. Our talented Head Chef Dawn, treated everyone to a delicious feast of chicken fried rice, prawn crackers, and homemade coconut ice cream, all topped off with her special mango cake - a perfect end to a wonderful day!
