Every year, Carers Week shines a light on one of the most important - and often underappreciated - workforces in the country. This year, running from 8 to 14 June, we were proud to join the national conversation and celebrate the dedicated team members across all nine of our Ashberry Healthcare homes.
What is Carers Week?
Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign that recognises the vital contribution made by people who work in care, as well as unpaid carers who support family members and loved ones at home. It's a week to say thank you, to raise the profile of the care sector, and to encourage more people to consider a career in care.
In 2026, the theme was Building Carer Friendly Communities, highlighting the difference that skilled, compassionate care makes to individuals and communities across the UK - and calling on workplaces, services and organisations to do more to recognise and support the people at the heart of it.
Why it matters
Care work is one of the most demanding, meaningful and deeply human professions there is. The people who choose this path - whether they're joining the sector for the first time or have given decades to it - bring patience, empathy and unwavering dedication to every single shift. They hold hands during difficult moments, celebrate small victories and provide the kind of consistent, compassionate presence that can change lives.
At Ashberry Healthcare, our teams do this day in, day out. From supporting residents living with dementia to navigate their day with dignity and calm, to helping older people stay connected to the things that bring them joy - a familiar song, a walk in the garden, a conversation that feels unhurried - our carers, nurses, activity coordinators and support staff are the heart of everything we do.
Yet care workers are often among the least visible members of our communities. The work they do happens behind closed doors, far from the headlines. There are no public celebrations, no fanfare - just quiet, consistent, compassionate professionalism, repeated across thousands of interactions every single day.
Carers Week exists to change that. It's a moment for organisations like ours to step into the light and say clearly: this work matters, the people doing it matter, and the difference they make to our residents, their families and our wider communities is immeasurable. It's also a chance to open a conversation - about what a career in care really looks like, why so many people find it so deeply rewarding, and how, together, we can make sure it gets the recognition it deserves.
How Ashberry Care Homes marked the week
Across our nine homes in Wales, Gloucestershire, and Herefordshire, we celebrated Carers Week by shining a spotlight on the people who make Ashberry what it is.
Meadowview Care Home in Warrington
At Meadowview Care Home, the week was one to remember. Each day began with breakfast for the team, and residents threw themselves into creating heartfelt cards and speeches to share with their carers. A buffet and a pizza day added to the celebrations, while residents delivered emotional words of thanks and management served tea. There were particularly special moments when Bill sang "You Are My Sunshine" and resident Margaret put together a lovely video for the team - a reminder of just how meaningful these relationships truly are.

Holmer Court Care Home in Hereford
At Holmer Court Care Home, Home Manager Claire marked the week by putting on a breakfast spread for her carers before taking the opportunity to speak directly to her team. "The care, compassion, patience and dedication you show our residents every single day never goes unnoticed," she said. "Caring is more than just a job - it takes a special person to support others with such commitment and empathy. I am incredibly proud to work alongside such a caring and compassionate team."

Engelberg Care Home in Wolverhampton
At Engelberg Care Home, Home Manager Sally spent time personally handing out gifts to staff as a small but heartfelt thank you for their dedication. As Sally put it: "Through both the good times and the challenging moments, our carers make a real difference to the lives of our residents and their families. Every act of care leaves a lasting impact."

We believe that great care starts with great people. Carers Week was our chance to honour them.
