The Weir Nursing Home was delighted to welcome We Are Farming Minds to the grounds in mid-July, as the charity hosted its monthly One Foot in the Grain gathering.
One Foot in the Grain brings members of the We Are Farming Minds community together for a relaxed social event, while raising awareness of the vital mental health support the charity provides to farmers and the wider agricultural community across Herefordshire.
A charity close to home
We Are Farming Minds was founded by Herefordshire farming couple Sam and Emily Stables, drawing on their own experience of the pressures farming can bring, to break down the stigma around mental health in the industry and make sure support is easier to reach in rural communities. The charity's work matters: research shows that poor mental health among farmers runs significantly higher than in many other occupations, yet those living and working in rural areas often have the least access to support.
To help change that, We Are Farming Minds offers a 24-hour support line, fully funded counselling for Herefordshire farmers, free mental health awareness workshops, a befriending service, and a programme of social events, including One Foot in the Grain, designed to bring farmers together and combat isolation. Supporting a community close to our own
Farming runs deep in Herefordshire, and it runs deep at The Weir too. Many of our residents spent their working lives on the land, whether running their own farms or working within the wider agricultural community, and that shared history makes our partnership with We Are Farming Minds feel especially fitting. Hosting One Foot in the Grain gave residents the chance to reminisce, swap stories, and reconnect with a community many of them know well, while showing real support for the farmers who continue that work today.

Proud to be Charity of the Year
As The Weir's Charity of the Year, we were proud to provide the venue and support such an important event, one that brings people together in a welcoming environment while highlighting the importance of mental health support within the farming community.
A special thank you goes to Sam, Co-Founder of We Are Farming Minds, who took the time to speak with the team and share more about the charity's incredible work. It was a pleasure to meet everyone, and we'd be delighted to welcome the team back anytime.
Thanks also go to our kitchen team, Dawn, Beth and Zoya, who baked a delicious selection of homemade cakes and scones for the occasion, and to all of the food vendors who helped make the day such a success.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back again soon.
