Empowering voices: Introducing our Resident Advocates

At Ashberry Healthcare, we believe that every resident should feel heard, valued, and involved in the community they call home. That’s why we’re proud to introduce our brand-new Resident Advocates initiative, designed to give residents a voice, a role, and a real sense of purpose.

What is the Resident Advocates Initiative?

The Resident Advocate group allows residents to play an active part in shaping home life, from giving feedback on meals and activities, to welcoming new residents, and even supporting our staff by monitoring safety and cleanliness. It’s about creating a space where residents don’t just live, but thrive.

Every Advocate takes on a role that reflects their personality, passions, or past experience, whether that's helping out with health and safety checks, leading a game of bingo, or helping decide what flowers bloom in the garden. And with their new Ashberry Advocate badges, they wear their roles with pride.

Advocates in Other Ashberry Homes

The initiative has taken root in other homes too. At Allt Y Mynydd, Alan – Support Advocate is always there to lend a helping hand to our team and residents. Alan supports with communication throughout the home and ensures everything is in order. Across our homes, residents are stepping up in wonderful ways, and it’s making a real difference. At Engelberg we have a number of advocates; Doreen is our resident table display coordinator, creating beautiful flower arrangements for our tables, Jill is our event planner- organising all our resident birthday celebrations and lastly Gillian, our activities assistant, giving Karyn, the wellbeing coordinator a helping hand with activities.

More Than Just a Role

Our Resident Advocates aren’t just helping out; they’re shaping the life of our homes. By giving residents responsibility and the chance to pursue meaningful roles, we’re nurturing confidence, community, and connection.

As Amy Clay, Resident Experience Manager at Ashberry Healthcare, explains:
"Going into care can often feel like you're losing your independence, sense of choice, and control. At Ashberry, we’re committed to changing that—we support our residents to stay in control of their lives and discover a renewed sense of purpose and belonging in our homes. Our Resident Advocate roles help to do so.”
"It's wonderful to visit our homes and see all our resident advocates proudly wearing their badges, getting to know what they have been up to, and who they have been helping," says Amy.

Our Resident Advocates are not only making our homes safer and more engaging, but they’re also fostering a vibrant community spirit. We are incredibly proud of their contributions and look forward to continuing this initiative across all Ashberry Healthcare homes.
