Steve Harris

Steve has led finance functions at national organisations in disability care, hospital philanthropy and paediatric neurorehabilitation, bringing commercial discipline, clear Board-level insight and a people-first leadership style to regulated, people-focused environments.

Steve read Maths and Economics at the University of Warwick and began his career in 1999 at PwC, advising on corporate finance and corporation tax and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2003. He then spent a decade in investment banking, across Deutsche Bank, Standard Bank and Citibank. Specialising within the Equities division he moved from financial control into change management and, by 2010, to be the EMEA Business Manager for Citi’s Prime Services business.

In 2014 he turned to the charity and care sector, joining Scope as Head of Financial Planning & Analysis before taking the Director of Finance role at Leonard Cheshire in 2015. He led a team of more than 50 finance staff in an organisation of around £175m turnover and some 150 care homes, leading its financial strategy.

In 2019 he became CFO of Barts Charity, the charitable foundation for Barts Health NHS Trust, responsible for managing a £530m endowment spanning financial investments and direct property. After advising the Royal Society of Medicine on strategy and commercial deals, he moved to The Children’s Trust in 2023 as Director of Finance, where he led the financial turnaround to deliver the charity’s first operational profit in eight years. He has recently joined Ashberry Healthcare as Finance Director where he leads the finance function.
