After completing his formal education Nigel joined the UK’s largest brewing group, Bass Charrington, initially as a Graduate Trainee. He quickly found himself managing a chain of pubs in London’s East End where he continued his education, coming into contact with a number of infamous characters! There followed a successful and progressive 10- year career in the hospitality industry working primarily for blue chip plc’s including Whitbread and Greene King.
Nigel joined the Board of the newly formed Ashbourne Homes nursing home group, a subsidiary of Stakis plc before completing a £50m MBO in 1991 followed by a Stock Exchange placing in 1994. Appointed Group Operations Director of Ashbourne plc he led the day-to-day activities of one of the first and subsequently largest care home groups in the UK. After the eventual sale of the Company to the USA-based Sun Healthcare Group Inc. Nigel held a number of senior and Board positions in the healthcare and veterinary consolidation sectors.
Joining Ashberry Healthcare in 2016 he was instrumental in guiding the turnaround of the struggling business and leading the successful 2020 MBO. His 35-year career in the multi-site health and social care sector has been based upon a platform of knowledge and success gained through acquiring, building, integrating and leading heavily regulated businesses through periods of change.
He is now concentrating on developing the Succession Plan whilst driving the development of the Company through further care home acquisitions. Nigel is driven by the core values of loyalty, integrity and compassion which he embraces through all levels of his business and personal life. He lives in the Hertfordshire countryside with his wife of 35 years and has 2 grown-up children who both live and work in London. When relaxing he enjoys skiing, playing golf and tennis, socialising with friends and family and travel.
At Ashberry Care Homes, we look after your loved ones with care focused on dignity, sensitivity and independence.
We understand the concerns that people have when choosing a care home either for themselves or for a loved one. In our care, residents and their families are at the heart of everything we do and are always treated with respect and consideration.
