Employee Spotlight: Care Assistant at Brockworth

At Ashberry Healthcare, our teams are caring individuals who consistently go the extra mile every day. Shania is one of our dedicated care assistants who continues to make a positive difference in the lives of residents here at Brockworth House.

Shania has dedicated the past three years to working as a care assistant, drawn to this profession by her genuine passion for helping others. Inspired by her mother, who has built a long-standing career in the care sector as a Wellbeing Coordinator at Brockworth House, Shania quickly realised that working in care is about far more than just a job, it offers a genuine sense of purpose and fulfilment.

Every day, she finds true joy in her role, particularly in those special moments when residents living with dementia feel safe, comfortable, and understood in her presence. For Shania, being able to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life is both rewarding and profoundly motivating.

Much of Shania’s work involves supporting people living with dementia, and she understands how important this responsibility is. She believes carers need confidence, understanding, and a genuine knowledge of the people they support. Creating a familiar and reassuring environment is something she focuses on every day.

Working with individuals living with dementia can be both rewarding and challenging, especially during appointments where others may not fully understand the complexities of the condition. These experiences have inspired Shania to become a strong advocate for the residents in her care, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are prioritised. They have inspired her to keep expanding her knowledge and skills, so she can provide compassionate, expert support and a sense of security to those who count on her every day.

After completing her NVQ Level 2, Shania hopes to continue progressing in her career, with the long-term ambition of becoming a nurse. She is particularly interested in more face-to-face dementia training, as she feels in-person learning helps carers build stronger practical skills.

One of the things Shania values most about Brockworth is its genuinely supportive environment, where colleagues encourage and uplift one another. She has been on this journey with her best friend, Jessica, and together they look forward to advancing their careers and one day becoming nurses.

Her advice to anyone new to care is simple:

Stay confident, be patient, and show kindness through the work you do.
