At Ashberry Healthcare, our care assistants play a vital role, providing daily support, companionship, and care that enriches the lives of our residents. One dedicated team member is Jessica, who has been making a difference at Brockworth House for three years.
Jessica's journey into care began with a deeply personal experience. Watching her Grandmother cope with an illness at home inspired her to help others in a similar situation. She wanted to make a real difference in people’s lives and explains that seeing how much compassionate care can help others motivated her to pursue this career.
Her commitment is to every single resident, making sure they feel appreciated, cared for, and happy every day. Jessica’s most fulfilling aspect of her job is making residents smile. A good day, according to Jessica, is when residents have everything they need and are having fun. If they are happy and we have done our best to make their day special, then that is a good day for all of us. Jessica approaches her work with empathy.
She explains,
I always try to see things from the residents’ perspective and treat them the way I would want to be treated.
This enables her to reach out to each resident in a special way, understanding their distinct needs, and making them feel safe and cared for. Jessica recalls one of her proudest moments when she was able to advocate for a resident. As a result of her efforts, the resident’s health improved, their confidence increased, and Jessica felt a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Jessica has developed confidence and skills over the years. Achieving her NVQ is a major achievement, and she is currently looking into further education, such as nursing. She emphasises the importance of ongoing education, confidence, and a willingness to take on new challenges to ensure the best possible care is provided. She is also looking forward to the future and opportunities that will arise, such as team leader or senior carer positions, and her dream of becoming a nurse.
Jessica shared words of advice for new carers;
to stay confident and not be intimidated by more experienced colleagues. She stresses the importance of being open to fresh ideas and learning from new staff, noting that fresh perspectives benefit both residents and the team.
Jessica is looking forward to her professional development at Ashberry Healthcare. Many staff members have taken the same route that Jessica is hoping to take, and with the help of Ashberry, she is eager to develop and achieve her career goals.
Jessica’s story is a testament to the dedication, empathy, and impact of care assistants. Her work ensures residents feel supported, happy, and valued every day while inspiring future care givers to pursue compassionate careers in care.
